Creating Waldens By Ronald A. Bosco, Joel Myerson, and Daisaku Ikeda Dialogue Path Press, September 2009 How can I incorporate the spiritual and ethical insights of Emerson, Thoreau, and Whitman into my life? In the eighteen provocative discussions that make up Creating Waldens: An East-West Conversation on the American Renaissance, Ronald A. Bosco, Joel Myerson, and Daisaku Ikeda explore the multifaceted, enduring legacy of Emerson, Thoreau, and Whitman. In the process, the authors challenge us to do as these great figures once did – to look deep inside ourselves to discover our potential for growth, to encounter the natural world with reverence and delight, and to express ourselves with poetry and imagination. With great appreciation for the timeless gifts of the American Renaissance, Bosco, Myerson, and Ikeda encourage each of us, indeed, to create our own Waldens. Ronald A. Bosco is Distinguished Professor of English and American Literature at the University of Albany, State University of New York. Joel Myerson is Carolina Distinguished Professor Emeritus of American Literature at the University of South Carolina. Daisaku Ikeda is President of Soka Gakkai International, a lay Buddhist organization with 12 million members worldwide. Advance Praise “Creating Waldens is a great, fortifying gift.” ... read more
