Mary Lee Morrison and Virginia Benson, both of whom spoke at the March 6 “Making Peace Cultures Happen” event, once again shared both personal recollections of their ongoing relationship with Dr. Boulding as well as considered observations on her formative contributions to peace building in the twentieth century. The afternoon also featured warm testimonials from friends, colleagues, and family members. Among those sharing memories and observations were several members of the Boston area peace and women’s studies communities, including Gordie Fellman of Brandeis University, Peggy McIntosh of Wellesley College, and Bob Irwin of M.I.T. Longtime friend of both Elise Boulding and the Center Nancy Wrenn also spoke, as did Boulding’s daughter Christie. Many North Hill residents attended the event. Music added a spirit of celebration to the proceedings, which opened and closed with the whole group singing two of Dr. Boulding’s favorite peace songs. Vocalist Kaoruko Yoshida Pilkington also performed a moving rendition of the song “Mother,” featuring lyrics by Daisaku Ikeda. Dr. Boulding did not offer formal remarks, but listened with great appreciation and a glowing smile.
