Book Talk
with Ronald A. Bosco & Joel Myerson Celebrating the publication of Creating Waldens: An East-West Conversation on the American Renaissance NOTE TO READERS, 9/25: The event was a great success, with engaging comments from Bosco, Myerson, and Patterson, and thoughtful questions from attendees. We'll be posting event coverage soon. Meanwhile here's a message from Daisaku Ikeda, written especially for the event!
How might we incorporate the spiritual and ethical insights of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Walt Whitman into our daily lives?
Please join us on September 24 for a public talk by Ronald A. Bosco and Joel Myerson, authors, along with Daisaku Ikeda, of our new publication, Creating Waldens: An East-West Conversation on the American Renaissance (Sept. 2009). In celebration of both the release of Creating Waldens and the 16th anniversary of the founding of the Center, Professors Bosco and Myerson will explore some of the humanistic themes from the book and share thoughts on their experience of engaging in dialogue with Center founder Daisaku Ikeda. Anita Patterson of Boston University will offer some opening reflections on Creating Waldens and the legacy of the American Renaissance. Ronald A. Bosco is Distinguished Professor of English and American Literature and Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Albany, State University of New York, where he has taught since 1975. Joel Myerson is Carolina Distinguished Professor Emeritus of American Literature at the University of South Carolina. Anita Patterson is Associate Professor of English at Boston University. *** About Creating Waldens: Read an excerpt from Conversation Four of Creating Waldens called "Refusing 'All the Accustomed Paths'" *** Also this fall: The 6th Annual Ikeda Forum for Intercultural Dialogue, Saturday, November 14th—this year called John Dewey, Daisaku Ikeda, and the Quest for a New Humanism.
