To commemorate milestones in the Center’s history, founder Daisaku Ikeda, who died on November 15, often sent messages that explore key aspects of each occasion, with special emphasis on the core ideas and values that should guide our work.
Daisaku Ikeda,Honorary President of the Soka Gakkai, President of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), and founder of our Center, passed away from natural causes at his residence in Shinjuku, Tokyo, on the evening of Nov. 15. He was 95.
During the second Indigo Talk of 2023, Cynthia Dillard of Seattle University drew upon Daisaku Ikeda's 1993 Harvard lecture, "Mahayana Buddism and 21st Century Civilization," as well as her own experience, to explore a new vision of hope and joy in life and death.

In commemoration of the Ikeda Center's 30th anniversary, on September 16 we will host our annual Ikeda Forum for Intercultural Dialogue examining the role of literature in fostering inner transformation and peace, especially in these increasingly divisive times. As the 19th event in the series, this year's forum will feature a dialogue with renowned scholars exploring Daisaku Ikeda’s engagement with literature as an indispensable tool to actualizing our personal and social potential for peace and wellbeing. For this of the iteration seminar, which was held on June 16 and 30, 2023, as part of the Center’s 30th anniversary year slate of events, participants engaged with the central ideas in Mr. Ikeda’s 1993 Harvard lecture, “Mahayana Buddhism and 21st Century Civilization.”
